The public uprising in Sudan in 2019 had consequences for virtually all parts of society, most of all for women and girls. The abolition of Sudan’s Morality and Public Order Act meant, for instance, that women could now train on a public football field, just like men. One of the female teams now taking part in a national competition is Al-Tahadi from the capital Khartoum. Its players still have to cope with the negative judgement of their families, colleagues or fellow students. Some actually had to leave their homes to live the dream of playing the game.
