In times of social distancing and lockdowns, it is hard to answer our basic human need of belonging. While social media play a prominent role in maintaining our relationships with our loved ones it simply cannot replace the spontaneity of physical encounters. We are social animals by nature. We seek to be part of something bigger, greater, livelier, nearer. By photographing social gatherings in my hometown of Antwerp, I captured the joy, the intensity and the sense of community that you cannot experience through a screen.
